MUSICAL JOURNEY
The Beat Doctor
DJMD 'The Beat Doctor' is a native New Yorker, Robert Moorhead by birth. After schooling at New York’s School of Performing Arts Robert attended the Institute of Audio Research School for music production, studying audio engineering, which led to an internship at Quad Recording Studios. Robert rose from intern to Assistant Recording Engineer for the studio and was then tapped to be one of three exclusive Assistants for Def Mix Productions, reknowned for reinventing major label Pop artists productions and remixing them for the dance floor. In that endeavor, Robert has contributed to remixes for such artists as Mariah Carey, Bjork and Seal.

During downtime on a mixing session, Pavel heard Robert play drums, and offered him a touring and performing opportunity in South America as the Drummer of Proyecto Uno. Over the next six years and across most of the South American continent with Proyecto Uno, Robert laid down the beat atop the drum riser and behind the drum kit for audiences ranging from ten thousand to eighty thousand people, playing all manner of venue from the historical Altos De Chavon in Casa De Campo, Dominican Republic to one of Latin America¹s largest and most prestigious music festivals The Viña del Mar in the Valparaiso region of Central Chile. Performing in town squares; bull fighting arenas and sold out shows at soccer stadiums in Chile; Venezuela; Colombia; Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. It was during these years of touring that Robert was sought upon once again by producer Pavel De Jesus to play drums for his two other Latin-Pop groups, Los Ilegales and Sandy Y Papo. While working with the Musical Director of these Latin-Pop acts, Robert realized his dream of bringing all that international success back home, as the drummer of the sixteen-piece “House Band” for Enrique Iglesias and Jon Secada performing at “The World’s Most Famous Arena”, Madison Square Garden.

After years of traveling and performing as part of the band, Robert decided instead, to be the band. Pulling from years of exposure & immersion in 1970s/1980s New York City culture of Pop and Rock, Funk, Soul, Reggae, Electronic, Disco & Hip-Hop. Robert has taken all that experience, in both worlds of musical performance, and technical audio production, and put them together for the best use possible, behind the turntables. Robert is currently a “gun for hire” for high-end events ranging from Fashion Show fundraisers benefiting breast cancer research, Exotic Auto Shows for Panache Magazine, to corporate events at Bryant Park and seasonal residencies for Castell Rooftop Lounge @ The AC Hotel, as well as providing the soundtrack for 2022s summer Rooftop Retreat pool party series for Extell Development in Hudson Yards.
DJMD continues his service of the upscale, corporate, fashion and private event circuit of Manhattan. Don't hesitate to catch a taste of his style spinning live from any one of the offerings from his Live Mixtape Series on https://www.mixcloud.com/djmd/
